5 Things I’m Loving This Week–January 22, 2016

My students had a recital this week, and it was just lovely. Everyone was so prepared, and they all did great. I played a duet with one of my students, Mendelssohn’s “On Wings of Song” arranged by Doris Preucil. Such a beautiful piece.

This week I felt especially inspired by a few specific violin teaching resources around the web.  Here are my favorite blog posts and podcasts from some amazing music teachers .

1. I loved Tim Topham’s podcast interview with Nick Ambrosino. I thought there were some great gems here about educating parents about practicing, and teaching the child over the instrument. I highly recommend it!  Now I want to read Nick Ambrosino’s teaching manual/fiction books.

2. Noa Kageyama shared this article all about listening on his blog, The Bulletproof Musician. Studies show that listening helps us learn music faster just as Dr. Suzuki thought!

3. In David Cutler’s book, The Savvy Music Teacher, it has many sections written by “from the trenches” piano teacher, Kristin Yost. She wrote this blog post about how to make your income consistent for the whole year, and I think it has some great ideas. The Savvy Music Teacher is the

4. I thought this post from Teach Piano Today Post about the seven things piano parents need to know was a great one to share with the parents in our studios. Some really good thoughts here.
